Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a new system to track the riding behaviour of delivery motorcyclists across the emirate. Cameras and Internet of Things sensors fitted to the bikes will feed data on speed, location, sudden acceleration, harsh braking and route patterns into a digital platform.

Saeed Al Ramsi, the RTA's director of licensing activities monitoring, said the system marks "a step-change in monitoring of delivery activity," allowing authorities to flag unsafe riding far more efficiently by analysing speed, acceleration, braking and route data in real time.

Under the rollout timeline, fitting the devices will remain voluntary until the end of the first half of 2027, after which it becomes mandatory for every delivery company operating in Dubai.

The initiative is part of the RTA's broader push to cut road accidents linked to delivery motorcyclists, a workforce that has grown sharply in recent years alongside the boom in online ordering and has repeatedly drawn concern over traffic safety on Dubai's streets.
